It’s not all that uncommon to find a laundry list of similarities between the Infiniti QX30 and the Mercedes GLA in automotive reviews, but what of the great lengths Infiniti has taken to differentiate the two?
Both models use the same Mercedes 2.0-liter turbo four engine and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, comes with optional AWD, they share the same suspension design and even the FWD variants have matching fuel economy numbers.
AutoBlog dug a little deeper to find the areas where they differ and one such place is the cabin. Shared pieces are common within the automotive world, but Infiniti tried their best to steer away from them as much as possible and gave the QX30 an electric parking brake instead of using Benz's Brake Hold feature. Those GLA circular dash vents are replaced by rhomboid ones, Infiniti's InTouch system sits where the GLA’s floating COMAND screen would have been and the dash is taller.
Then there’s the exterior which is sporting Infiniti’s own sheet metal body and glass. But in the end, it’ll boil down to what style and features a shopper prefers. “Most people who buy one or the other will be blissfully unaware that its counterpart exists, and they're unlikely to make the comparison while shopping anyway.”
