So I saw that some people have complained that this car doesn't have push-button start. I found this curious, since it has the same key as a Mercedes and they have PB start. So we tried an experiment. We popped the start button out of an E-class we had on the lot and put it into a new QX30 (it fits perfectly and looks like it was made for the car). With the key inside the car, push the start button a couple times and the car starts. After that, one push and it starts. Car will not start if the key is not inside the car. Basically, it seems to work flawlessly. Someone from Infiniti told us the car needs a different wiring harness for push-button start to work properly, but so far anyway, that runs contrary to our experience.

Note, THIS IS IN NO WAY AN INFINITI APPROVED SOLUTION AND IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. IF YOU DO SOMETHING BECAUSE SOME SALESPERSON INTERNET JOCKEY TOLD YOU IT WOULD BE OK, YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN.

All that said, it seems to work fine.

You can buy the part HERE ON AMAZON for around $35. Here's what I got when I ordered a couple:

Thanks for posting this, hopefully Infiniti will actually make it a standard feature in a future production model year, it's too easy to add and the "ROI" on it is much bigger than the cost to add it.

I've heard that it is going to be added at some point later this year or early next year. What I was told (don't completely believe it based on my experience with the above experiment) was that there needs to be an update to the wiring harness in the car. If you told me the sensors throughout the car that determine if the key is inside vs. outside the cabin need updating or tuning, I'd believe that. In the meantime, I have a client who is going to try it out for a while and see how it goes.

I mean really... What's the worst that can happen. It's the same car so I can't imagine it would or could mess anything up. Do they pop in and out easily?

It could short out the entire wiring harness and since it isn't supported, could cost you a replacement of said harness - plus all the labor that goes along with that. That doesn't appear to be happening though. So far it is working fine.

On the Mercedes forums, people say it will either work or or it won't work, depending on if you have the square on the outer door handle. I don't think there are different wiring harnesses since it came from Mercedes. Only Infiniti knows why they didn't include it. Maybe cost. Also are you Timmay237 on Reddit? He said the same thing. He tried it and it works great at his dealership.

Works like an absolute charm!

What I find interesting is all the press photos of the QX30 on Infiniti Online Newsroom shows this Start/Stop button installed. The question is why didn't Infiniti include it on these first batch of cars? Per Mercedes forums, if it works, your car has all the wiring harnesses, door handles, etc. Would Infiniti really have excluded this to save $30? Are they trying to make this an entry-level car without push button ignition? Did Mercedes not want them to use their Push Button Start?

I found the appearance of the start button in the press photos (and a video) interesting (and misleading) as well. Even more interesting is that the owner's manual for the US models (owners.infinitiusa.com/content/manualsandguides/QX30/2017/2017-qx30-owner-manual.pdf) makes no mention of a start button (only the intelligent key). From that I infer no intention of intention of making it available at a later date. Maybe it becomes available with the 2018 model year.

A friend of mine has an Infiniti dealership in the Vancouver, BC area. I noticed he had a used C class Mercedes on his lot so we took the push button out and put it in a QX30. Worked like a charm.

So the wiring and everything you need for the button is already in the QX30, infiniti just decided not to add the button in. That is such an odd decision on their end.

Yep. Mine is a fully-loaded Sport, so I don't know if one of my packages is what allows me to do this, or if all QX30's have the capability built in. If you go over to the GLA250 forums, you'll see a lot of them complaining that if you're car didn't get Keyless Go option package from the factory, it's over $2,000 to add it, because they have to upgrade the wiring harness, ignition system, and door handles. They also say it will either work or it won't work, meaning since it works for us, I don't think there is any risk of hurting you car. If the wiring harnesses, door handles, etc were not right, it just wouldn't work. So, we're very lucky it's only $30 for us to get Push Button ignition. I just don't understand why Infiniti would not include this. I really hope Infiniti makes this standard soon, and does not push out some update to the car's software disabling this capability.

Has anyone else done this? I asked my salesman about it, and he's asking the regional trainer about why they didn't include the buttons....

I spoke with someone from Infiniti yesterday. Basically I got some mealy-mouthed BS answer that said it isn't a supported solution but we know it works without problem. Seriously, the answer made him sound like a slippery car salesperson. But the net of it was, "we're not including the part, but if a client installs the Mercedes part, we don't expect any problems."

Now if we can just figure out how to make the car unlock itself when you turn it off or put it in park - or at a minimum, when you pull the door handle to get out.

My salesman got the exact same spiel today from the "national Infiniti product trainer/specialist", with the added info that push button ignition will be coming on QX30's in the future. They also told him they don't want salespeople telling customers that it's possible since it's not an Infiniti part. Still baffles me why they wouldn't have included it already...I wonder if when they add it, they will give the button to anyone who has already bought a QX30.

I emailed Infiniti to ask why the units in the photos on their press website have a push-button ignition switch when units for sale do not. I also asked if the option will be available at some point in the future. Response below:

We understand you have questions regarding the availability of a push button ignition on the Infiniti QX30. This feature is currently not available on the 2017 Infiniti QX30. We have no information about plans to introduce a push start ignition on the Infiniti QX30 in the near future. Infiniti strives to create the most innovative products in the industry with our clients in mind. We thank you for input; however, we have no forum to accept unsolicited product suggestions at this time.

We also understand the photos in question do show a push button ignition. However, the photos were of the Infiniti QX30 Concept and changes to the QX30 were made prior to going into production and one of those changes happened to remove that feature.

They're definitely all working off the exact same playbook. The good news I extracted is that there isn't anything wrong with making my customers happy. You buy a QX50 from me and you'll get push-button start if you want it.

Oh, and just to plug myself some more, we have 4 times the number of in-stock QX30's as any other Norcal dealer. If you want choices, I'm the person to see.

Ooops. I meant QX30. Although, you'll also get push-button start on a QX50 if you buy it from me.
