Wondering if I could get away with changing only the fluid and coller filter on a transmission service. I have an oil extractor that extracts the fluid through the dipstick hole. Just didn’t want to deal with that vertical transmission pan. Seems like the cooler filter would sufficiently capture all the particulates?

After doing mine at 57k. I would recommend against it. Both of my filters were pretty bad. There is a drain plug on the bottom of transmission.
Thanks. I actually talked to one of the service technicians today. He said it’s fine to only change the external filter because it filters most of the junk. The internal filter is closed, so I’m curious as to how you knew it was dirty?

I opened it up to check. Lots of clutch debris and small shavings. Not uncommon for first filter change. The canister filter is to keep the cooler from getting clogged. It's like a small radiator, very small passages.
