I do not accept not having a spare tire and have not been a fan of the stiff Conti run flats that come with the QX30. I replaced my worn tires with non run flats and now have a full size spare tire in the trunk. Yes, it takes up most of the space in the trunk. The ride is more comfortable with non run flats versus the Conti run flats.

I thought the same as you did about no spare tire and not ever having run flats. Well getting two "flats' from screws two weeks apart I'm a fan. If it wasn't for the warning on the dash I would never known. First time a got nervous and went to the dealer and used my tire warranty. Free tire. Second time I was ok no biggie. Back to the dealer and got second free tire. I enjoy the stiffer ride. More sporty feel.

At 70K miles I had this same decision, $1,200.00 latter I went with the Conti SSR's, There is no room in this car as it is,let alone carrying a spare. Why would I want to get out on a dark, rural highway and change a tire. When I can drive home and deal with the issue latter.Weight of the spare hurts gas mileage. Yes the SSR's offer a firm ride, its what Mercedes chose for this model, I'm at 115K,planing to replace with same at 140K. IMHO
