Hi to all :)

I love my new QX30 but unfortunately I've a truble with the electrical fuel supply door... don't open!! :crying:
When I press on the door to open it feels a little engine noise as if the motor was running but does not open.
Of course I tried several times to unlock and lock the car with the key, but without success.
I read that other cars have the option to open it manually via a lever accessible in the trunk, I tried to search it in mine but I did't found it.
I also read the car's manual but is not mentioned.

How can I do? I'm in fuel reserves :crying::crying:

Thanks
David

Sorry to hear that, David.

Have a look at this video:

As you know, our fuel-filler door is on the left side of the vehicle. There should be a panel on the left side as well. Maybe there is something in there that is similar to the video above.

According to our owner's manual, there is no reference to a manual override. In comparison with the GLA owner's manual, the problem is at least documented (attached):

Problem: The fuel filler flap is unlocked, but the opening mechanism is jammed.
Possible causes/consequences and ► Solutions: The fuel filler flap is unlocked, but the opening mechanism is jammed. ► Consult a qualified specialist workshop.

You may want to contact Infiniti roadside assistance.

2 weeks now with my qx30s and same problem since day 1. After trying for 30mins at the gas station and reading the manual for the 10th time i just gave it a hard hit and it worked. it opens easy when it wants only and now and then it opens by itself.

Havent called dealer but if you have found a solution or called the dealer let us know.

Fuel filler also won't open.....

New owner (in Scotland). went to fill up at 7.30 pm - filler door won't open. Also spent 30 minutes in the garage feeling a complete fool. Eventually had to give up and go home. Called Infiniti Assist. RAC duly turned up 2 hours later and also couldn't fix it or find a manual override - said its the first car he's ever seen with no manual override. it s now 1030pm, so I am going to have to cancel my plans for tomorrow (golf with 3 mates) and try to get Infinit to fix it. Got a 600 mile journey on Monday, so not feeling confident.
From looking at this forum, as well as general Internet, this is clearly a well known problem. So why is there no manual override ?!
Other than that (and all the electronic problems I've had) I love the car!

Sorry to hear that, Ron. I was also surprised to learn that there's no mechanical override for the fuel door. As I mentioned in my earlier post, at least the GLA owner's manual documents that it's a known problem. I would hate to have this problem on a long road trip in the middle of nowhere. Keep us posted on how Infiniti responds.

Barely 3 months with my qx30 and my gas door panel won't open. Apparently the part is on national back order. Could be 1week, could be more than a month. The idea that I have to go to the dealer to have my fuel door opened for me to get fuel so far is ridiculous. How can there be no accessible latch inside to manually open it. If another week goes by I think I may need to get an option 'B' into place cause I didn't leave Honda which I've had 12 of for a luxury brand and I thought better car for this. My Hondas all had the latch inside the car, I'm just mind blown right now that something so small is creating one heck of a headache. How long did it take for anyone here to get this fixed? I'm in Illinois btw

I have just joined the stuck fuel flap brigade and have fumes in the tank.. - I called out the breakdown and they say all they can do is break the catch, which as under warranty still, I obtained a disclosure from the Infinity dealership.
Breakdown service on their way again. (I have managed to reach in between the two skins of the car and can feel a plastic mechanism, unfortunately cannot get my hand in the right position to hook underneath the pull it back.. (not sure if it would work anyway). so unless this breakdown guy has more agile arm, wrist and fingers than me, guess the lock will have to be broken.

This does seem to be a fault with QX30, Q30, A Class and GLA - so why don't they address it !

One of my colleagues had this problem on his gf's QX30. Sounds like it isn't an isolated incident. Hmm.

It's bad enough that the G35 coupe often required some weird sort of door lock & fuel door secret activation and synchronization sequence periodically. I learned to keep instructions on my phone for such pump-side emergencies. (Don't get me started on the G35 trunk release...)
I can't believe fuel tank access is STILL an Infiniti issue 10+ years later. Surely it can't be that hard!

Has anyone considered overriding the locking mechanism? As indicated below if anyone really wanted to siphon your juice they could just force the flap. I looked at blocking the door catch with a piece of rubber to stop the hook catching but wasn't sure if that would cause a problem with the solenoid which drives the hook. The ideal solution (besides a mechanical override) is removal of the hook but not sure how it comes off.

Update: Brought my car to the dealer for fuel door randomly popping open. Picked it up after work and they said they could not duplicate the problem so took no action.
Next day I stopped to fill up...fuel door wouldn't open! Took awhile, clicking fob and pressing on door, until it suddenly opened.
Now back to the dealer for new problem.

Are you referring to part # 78120-5DA0A? MSRP is $135.58 USD, and it can be had for $87.99 USD.

I'm not familiar with any Euro parts sites, but perhaps a US site/dealer will ship to you if you cover shipping/customs?

For used parts we have auto wreckers that have damaged/totaled vehicles that they part out. There are a number of QX30's available on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market for example.

Thank you so much! I’ll check it’s the correct part number with my engineer and then order. Most kind of you to take the trouble. Kind regards, Ian

Hi guys!

New to this forum. Joined because I had the same problem with the fuel flap a couple months after I got my used QX30 premium. Gladly, mine opened and closed randomly, but it still opens after a few tries. Did some research and found that this is a common issue with both QX30 and GLA.

so I stopped by a dealership and luckily they have this little guy. Problem resolved after replacing it. Model number 78850-5DA0C. Not sure what’s the difference though between this one and the model another friend found above.

When I took out the old actuator (very easy), it appears there’s water in there and rusty water can be shaken out. Wonder if that’s the reason why it failed. Does anyone know if there’s way to stop water from entering the actuator? I wouldn’t want to have to replace it every year or so....

Hi. Welcome to the club! I have exactly same story to share about my Infiniti Q30 2016... Long story short..I Runned out of fuel, I got to nearest petrol station and I couldn't open my fuel flap in any way. Two big and very helpfull men tried to help me with it for an hour (one Shell's staff and some other customer who was kind enought), but unfortunately the only one way to get in was to break the flap (I already totally runned out of the fuel, so there was no chance to get to the nearest servise point or mechanics). After all, I went to Arnold Clark service point (that's where I got my car from) full of hope they may help me.... I was delusional unfortunately. First they said they will fix it for me and they even gave a choice between orginal part ( cost over £700) and not original (cost around £173) and of course I went for the second option. Due to Covid-19 I had to wait another 3 weeks, to find out a one day before appointment, that the only option to fix my flap is to send my car to the only in Scotland, Infinity garage in Glasgow (and I'm from Edinburgh 🙄and we do have lockdown so traceling to other city is banned) and I'll pay price for an original part, because not original are not avilable in UK.... oh well.. I spent few hours trying to find flap in UK on my own... and nothing.. And then I reminded myself, that I'm a Polish, middle age and self sufficient lady at the source, so I'll do it in polish way for a change😉. I researched polish market for second hand and brand new fuel flaps for my car and I found few in 10 mins!!(I assume it's because the Infinity is much more popular in Poland than in UK) I was also lucky to find right colour straight away for only 100 zl which is equally to £20! I also found a polish mechanic with his own garage ( recommended by friends), who agreed to fix it for no more than £100! Total estimated cost to fix (replaced) my fuel flap will be £120! At this point I'm waiting for my flap to arrive and hopefully, next week my car will looks like brand new again! Apart of this one situation, I never had any other problems with my Infinity q30 through last 3 years. I still love my car ! ;)... and I hope it will stay this way...
