Default Oil Pressure Light Problems

August 4th driving to a funeral about 4 hours away I received a text, email and display screen message that there was an oil pressure problem and I need to immediately stop driving the car. No lights were flashing nor did the car didn't seem to be in distress, But I pulled over, checked the oil, called SOS Infiniti and was told to take it immediately to the nearest Infiniti dealership which was over 3 hours away...plus they weren't open yet. Kept driving, no problems, no more messages. Discovered the following Monday that Infiniti had sent out this message in error to almost all Infiniti QX30 owners and not to worry about it.

Fast forward to this past weekend. Driving to the same part of the state 4 hours away when I got the exact same message...text, email and display screen. Again, stopped, checked the oil, called SOS etcetc. Kept driving, no problems, no more messages.

Called my dealership on Monday and was told to bring the car in, that no messages had been sent out in error this time. Q was plugged in and an error code came up but with no description. Service adviser sent the report to Infiniti and they said they had seen this before and that the oil pressure pan sensor pin was loose in the wiring harness. The master tech pushed it back in and said I was good to go. They really had no advice on what I should do if it happens again except bring it back in.

What I find interesting is there is no specific oil pressure/oil level warning light. The only way you will know if there is a problem is if you get a display screen message.

Do you have some type of subscription service for them to send you texts and emails? I wish my QX30 did that!

I have the Infiniti In-Touch subscription that came free with the car. I think it's good for a least a year...maybe two. After that I have to pay around $12 a month to keep it. So far the only thing it's done is alert me to the oil pressure problem and one of those was a false alarm. So not sure if it's worth paying for.

Are you in USA or elsewhere?

We bought our 2018 QX30 brand-new, but received only a 3 month trial.

I looked into renewing it, but the least-expensive plan that provided any value for us was $24.99 a month -- far too expensive, imo.
