Well this is probably going to be my last update. They 'think' they fixed it by replacing the ECM. I continued on with the Lawyer. Infiniti had me bring the car in to have a regional technician look at it. I was there maybe a half hour and since the car was working at that time all he did was check for codes and wrote his report that the car wasn't broke at the time - no kidding.

About a week later they sent over an offer to pay me $3500 but that the warranty on the ECM would be null and void. We told them no. And a few days after this the navigation screen went blank and wouldn't come back on - so there are definitely still issues. Infiniti couldn't find anything wrong with the screen because if the car sits long enough it starts to work again and they said it had to be broken when I brought it in....

The Lawyer had me fill out a BBB online complaint. Apparently that worked. Friday we received this email from Nissan USA:

Good morning,

I hope this email finds you well!

Nissan carefully considered your request during a review of all available facts pertaining to your clients situation. Based on the vehicle repair history, Nissan offers to voluntarily repurchase your client’s vehicle.

In order to coordinate the replacement or repurchase, Nissan needs to know the particular facts pertaining to the ownership and intentions regarding the vehicle. Please return the following documents to me at your convenience, as it will be needed to make a detailed offer:

· 5 Vehicle photos (4 exterior sides photos and 1 interior photo)
· Legible copy of the vehicle’s registration

We anticipate completing the replacement or repurchase within 2 to 4 weeks from the time you accept an offer.

I sent the pictures to the lawyer over the weekend. So my saga is almost over. I'm not sure what they are going to offer to buy this back, I would assume what I paid to date, but I guess we'll find out. It's kind of a shame as I like the car, I just can't trust taking it any distance.

Did you ever purchase another push button to see if the problems don't come back? How long did you run with the push button before it started acting up? I'd offer to send you mine to try but it's my wife's daily driver and a big inconvenience for her since she would have to dig around her purse just to try to find her key fob among god knows what else she keeps in that seemingly bottomless thing.

I will try later on a new one and see how it does. at this point there is no doubt that the problem was the button, since I am not using it almost 3 months never an issue when it was on, issues almost every day

Glad that the Lemon Law served it's purpose for you! What happens to the cars that are repurchased under this law? Hopefully they don't just turn it around and re-sell it...?

What car are you considering to replace it?

I have had this occur before and the dealer had me turn the car off and then back on and it went away. However, recently I was exiting the driveway at my office and the car did what you describe--I pushed the gas pedal and nothing happened. I got concerned about pushing too hard. I turned off the car and restarted it and then it worked. This car seems to have these weird issues that the dealers are not able to figure out.

I was wondering if anyone is still experiencing issues?

My 2018 QX30 with 22K miles is experiencing the same VDC warning lights and lag in acceleration. I actually showed the dealer this post and they are starting by replacing the gas pedal sensor, if that doesn't fix it they are planning to replace the ECM unit.

is there anything else that would be causing the issue or do either (or both) of these seem to be the fix?

Thanks in advance, Ron

I can't comment on YOUR vehicle.

The gas pedal sensor was not an issue for MY QX30... Did they explain WHY they are replacing the sensor? MAYBE it's a problem for your car... But I haven't heard of that being an issue on any others (and it wasn't for me) so it does raise the question, in my mind.

If your dealer is simply shotgunning parts at your QX30 then I would RUN away from that dealership! Many techs are just parts-changers -- and they're fine for replacing brake pads or other "simple" repairs... But you do NOT want them handling the diagnosis of complex issues. Replacing parts that don't need replacement is a great way to waste time, and introduce further problems.

The dealer should be able to pull historical codes from the ECU. Ask them for a copy of that information. My dealer happily provided a list of all the systems and DTCs that were stored. After the dealer has the DTCs they should be checking on Infiniti Tech-Info for TSBs and other related information. They should then escalate to Infiniti Tech-Line for further analysis/guidance. Did your dealer advise that Tech-Line has become involved?

They did pull the codes. I did not see the list but I didn’t ask for it either. One of the codes was related to the gas pedal and one was related to the ECM unit. And actually I did not say anything about the gas pedal sensor but I’m guessing they are starting with that first since the ECM unit is over $1000.

At this point I have no reason to doubt my Infiniti dealer. This is my first trip here and we’ll see how it goes.

You guys may want to check out the MB CLA forum. Some people had this issue as far back as 2014. I can't say it's related for sure, but
it is a Benz/Infiniti combination vehicle. I recall the gas pedal and wiring harness being issues. Best of luck!
